The story of scripture is a story in which we see God in passionate pursuit of people. He creates people, walks with and talks to people; He chastens, corrects, and redirects people; He chases, hopes for, and invites people into communion with him.

Every year the Oversight Team takes a few weeks to keep Pearl's purpose to truly worship and follow Jesus at the forefront of our heart and mind. This purpose anchors all that we do. It influences that which we dream about. It has shaped us, is shaping us, and will shape us. If we are able to just a few things well, let it be truly worshiping the Lord and giving our lives away to follow after Jesus.

Joppa, A City by the Sea by Mike Roth

The stories of Joppa are horrifying but the lessons there are beautiful. So beautiful are the lessons in Joppa that they might even change the heart of God's people. And perhaps, these people of God might even begin to hope and expect anew that the Lord will enter into the chaos, judgment, boundaries, and temptation today.

Peter’s Story by John Ross

In the middle of our series examining the sea and the coastlands, Pearl Church gets a visit from the apostle Peter. Telling us his story, he suggests that even when we have failed Jesus we still belong at his table and involved with ministry. Further, he suggests that we might be called to become fishers of people as well; those who return to the sea and call others who have failed and given up back to faith and community.

Astounding Faith by Mike Roth

In Matthew chapters 14-15, Jesus finds himself surrounded by followers who struggle to believe. It isn't until an unexpected Canaanite woman shows-up, astounds Jesus by her faith, and in so doing sets an example for us all.

The ark by Mike Roth

Genesis 6-8 tells of an ark, a flood, and a rainbow. It is also the beginning of an idea: that God comes near and saves through the ark when the seas rage. Wouldn't it be great if that ark existed today?

Parting the Water by Mike Roth

Why do we face chaos and temptation? Could God possibly have a hand in this? What are we to learn? By looking at three stories in scripture, we find that we are not alone and that the chaos and temptation might just be that which we do not expect: an opportunity for God's presence and power to be revealed.

An Introduction: And The Sea Was No More. by Mike Roth

How are we supposed to be the hopeful and expectant people of God in this messed-up world? Our summer sermon series looking at a biblical theology of the coastlands will remind us all summer long that while we wait for there to be no sea, God shows-up at the sea now and changes everything.

Contending for Faith by Mike Roth

The natural response to community awash in brokenness is to flee. Jude challenges this temptation and exhorts the Beloved to a different response.

Remembering Judgment by Mike Roth

According to Jude, the place to begin contending for the faith that has been entrusted to us is by remembering judgment. This is not an easy word, but it is Jude's word - God's word. A word we hope marks and shapes this community who desires to give her life away for Jesus' sake.

An Introduction by Mike Roth

On this Outreach Sunday, our Outreach leadership team discusses how this ministry is comprised, they cast vision for church to engage the world, and they offer opportunity to get involved.

The City of God by John Ross

Here in Isaiah 62 we encounter another prophetic vision of restoration, this time for the city of God. Recognizing that we, the people of God, ought to busy ourselves with "city of God" kinds of activity, we find ourselves in a few new roles: reminding God of his promises and clearing the way for others to enter the city he is building.http://pearlchurch.com/sermon_files/10_05_09_Isaiah_62_The_City_of_God.mp3

Isaiah sings a song about a servant who will assuredly bring justice to the earth on behalf of almighty God. But this servant will bring justice quietly, gently, and without retribution. The gospel of John paints a collage of pictures that give shape and form to the way in which we see Jesus. He is bread, light, way, shepherd, gate, vine, and resurrection. As we begin to see him as he truly is, we find the unexpected: our lives painting pictures of Jesus that this world can see.

John 11 tells the story of Lazarus; a story in which Jesus and Martha have a conversation about Resurrection. In it, Jesus offers new life, not just on the last day, but also today; here and now for everyone who may believe. He offers Lazarus raised from the dead; walking, talking proof that he really does have power to grant new life, right here and now in ways we might think impossible.

Pastoral Reflections 2010 by Pearl Church Pastors

A Pearl Church tradition on every first Sunday of a new calendar year; our Pastoral Staff shares about high and low points from 2009, lessons learned, and hopes and dreams for 2010. Our goal for this sharing is two-fold: that our pastors would be known by our church, enabling us to pray for and support our pastors well, and that the transparency modeled by our staff would be infectious, spreading throughout on church in the form of honest conversation and community.
