The Dignity of Difference, How to Avoid the Clash of Civilizations, By Jonathan Sacks
(read the whole book or just chapters 3 & 8, linked below as a pdf)
Throughout the season after the Epiphany, which celebrates the light of God upon all people, we’ll be hearing from buddhist, muslim, and jewish leaders to learn more about their faith traditions and to consider our religious differences and similarities. In The Dignity of Difference, the former Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, Jonathan Sacks outlines a set of themes aimed at defining a religiously sensitive civilization capable of nurturing religious particularity in the midst of religious plurality. Have you wondered how being Christian can compassionately and respectfully interact with other religious perspectives? This book and forthcoming discussion should be of consequential help. Because the book may be difficult to purchase, we’ll spend the majority of time discussing chapters 3 and 8, which can be found here. Interested or have questions?
