Mindful, Self-aware Parenting

  • Pearl Church 721 Northwest 9th Avenue Portland, OR, 97209 United States (map)

To be mindful is to be attuned to the present. To be self aware is to have conscious knowledge of one’s own character and feelings. As a mother of five children ages 11-21, I see these two states of being as key to nourishing meaningful, loving connections with children.

You’re invited to join me on Wednesday, March 17th from 7-8:30pm for a group discussion for parents and caregivers. No matter what age your children are it is never too late to create new ways of relating and deepening the relationships you have with them. In this group discussion we will explore together questions like:

  • What do you love about your children?

  • What do you like about being a parent?

  • How do you think/feel about yourself as a parent?

  • What is one thing that, if you could, you would like to change in your relationship with your children?

Come with a beginner's mind, ready to listen to the wisdom other parents have to share, and share your own unique wisdom as well.

This discussion based class is best experienced in a small group. Therefore, space is limited to 6 people. Please RSVP  by emailing Pastor Mindy to secure a spot and receive the zoom information. If this class fills, you will have the opportunity to join next month (date TBD). Contact Pastor Mindy at mindyd@pearlchurch.org with any questions.

Read what a few Pearl parents have to say about this class…

The Mindful Self-Aware parenting class offered a refreshing framework for considering my intentions in parenting, while being sensitive to each parent’s unique differences in personality and circumstances. By offering thoughtful questions for reflection, engaging content and space for sharing in conversation, I gained practical tools for the present, as well as opportunities for further consideration. I walked away from the class with a renewed gentleness toward myself as a parent, which I hope will in turn extend to my children. This class is an invaluable resource for parents and caregivers of children in any developmental stage. ~Jen Roth

Especially with the isolation of the pandemic, I found it helpful to share some challenges in parenting as well as hear from other parents and know I’m not alone. I learned from other parents, and have put into practice taking more time to take a breath and pause before I respond. ~Lizzie Varner
